But the hour is comng, and now is, when the true worshippers will worshjip the Father in spirit and in truth; for the Father is seerking such to worship Him. John 4:23.
We are to worship Him “in spirit” – this is the subjective aspect of worship. This means that our spirit is wholly in tune with God’s Spirit. This requires that we not only be related to Him through faith, but also that we be in fellowship with Him through obedience and through confession of sin. It also requires that we have a heart to love Him with all our heart and all our soul and and all our strength.
We are to worship Him “in truth” – this is the objective aspect of worhsip. This means that our worship is wholly in line with God’s Word. This requires that we submit ourselves to the Word of God and allow it to be the final authority for what we believe and for how we behave. It also requires that we give attention to reading the Word, studying the Word, obeying the Word, and teaching the Word.
In our worship, there must be:
